Lets talk about piracy...

And like what I said on my header..lets talk about piracy. What is piracy and how does it differs from thief? As kumareng Mirriam said:

Piracy:
the unauthorized use of another's production, invention, or conception especially in infringement of a copyright

Thief:
one that steals especially stealthily or secretly; also : one who commits theft or larceny

So there, I don't know if you catch the difference or not. On my point of view piracy is copying of materials, the original materials will still be there. Thief is stealing things and original material will be long gone. The picture below will explain much better.

And why am I talking about it? Last week I got a very demanding request from someone to jailbreak his iOS device and where to download stuff. His approach is too strong that time and I snapped! Told him that I no longer jailbreak things ever since I moved to CA and told him that if he really wanna jailbreak all he need is kumpareng Google.

I think everything is in the internet nowadays. All you need to do is search. Knowledge is free if you know where to look. Did I support piracy? Sadly yes. I did support it a lot back in PH. Hidalgo Street in Quiapo is my haven. It offers a lot of stuff. From Game CDs to DVDs. Piracy back then is like sampling things for me. If I like the stuff, I will buy the original thing. PH has the worst market thing because we have this no return no exchange thing. So why would I buy an original CD without listening to it first.  Oh yeah it still doesn't justify things. I read on an article about piracy, the author said that piracy in a 3rd world country is somehow legal. Why? People on a 3rd world country doesn't have the means to buy stuffs so they went to the next best thing...piracy. The internet speed in PH and probably on other "poor" countries is so slow and will take a month in order to download a bluray copy of a movie.

Moving in CA, I changed a lot. I noticed that a lot of people buy and rent movies and books online. Sometime I think they are dumb paying a lot of $$$ for they can just download it online. But then again they have the means to buy. They have the spending power to buy those things. And thankfully me too. Most DVDs and BluRays are affordable. Sometimes they play at around $5 to $20. But those are old titles. But still a goodies! And Netflix offers 1 month free trial and just $8 bucks a month. Now I sound like promoting things. And my train of thoughts is now wayward since Im typing this entry while watching Castle. Yes I bought all the Castle series on iTunes courtesy of Apple. Got the free $100 gift card when I bought my Mac last last week. :)
