So I have this student laptop that is unable to do a windows update. I've spent hours and hours working on this and I even missed out my lunch! So after 4 and a half hours of working I finally hit it the solution!
But first I want to tell some of the things that I did and those did not work!
1. Restore computer to factory default!
2. Start and stop windows installer and windows update on services.msc
3. Delete edb.log on c:\windows\softwaredistribution\datastore\logs
4. Delete all the files inside c:\windows\softwaredistribution folder (yeah risky but what the heck I already restore it on factory default so if I messed up restoring the pc is no problem at all)
5. Change the settings of windows update
6. Run Microsoft Fix it (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2730071)
And the list goes on and on
Then I feel Im not getting anywhere so I sit on my computer and typed random things then I remember, this is a HP laptop, for sure Im not the only one that have this problem and I feel that HP might have a trick for this. So I went to HP website and found the solution!
Download and install the fix on the link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c02219204
Works for me! I hope this will help others that have the same problem with me.
